~The Meenakshi Temple - Madurai-INDIA~
Related to country: India

The enormous temple complex is dedicated to Shiva, known here as Sundareshvara and his consort Parvati or Meenakshi. The original temple was built by Kulasekara Pandya, but the entire credit for making the temple as splendid as it is today goes to the Nayaks. The Nayaks ruled Madurai from the 16th to the 18th century and left a majestic imprint of their rule in the Meenakshi - Sundareswarar Temple.

The temple complex is within a high-walled enclosure, at the core of which are the two sanctums for meenakshi and Sundareshwara, surrounded by a number of smaller shrines and grand pillared halls. Especially impressive are the 12 gopuras. Their soaring towers rise from solid granite bases, and are covered with stucco figures of dieties, mythical animals and monsters painted in vivid colours.

~Etisalat Phone Company Building - Dubai ~
Related to country: United Arab Emirates

One of the world's most distinctive skyscrapers, the Etisalat Tower is topped by a large sphere which many people liken to a "giant golf ball".

The Etisalat Tower in Dubai was designed by the renowned Canadian architect Arthur Ericson whose project was taken over and completed by the Canadian building consultants Cansult after Ericson encountered contractural difficulties. It is a 100 metre cylindrical tower of concrete, steel and glass comprising 15 floors with an adjacent 3-storey circular annex containing public service offices and facilities. The Tower comprises 2 opposing concrete "shoulders" each shaped in a 40° arc that rise from the base of the building to the top. Within these are the tower's lifts and service supply facilities. Between the 2 arcs are 15 floors of office space shrouded by dark green coloured steel and glass that project out from the building in staggered, vertical, narrow, rectangular columns diminishing in number as the floors project outwards from the concrete columns.

Above the 15th. floor, the hexagonal roof slants in to the centre from either side of the building at 45° to form a base for the communications orb at the zenith. The communications orb is pitted like a golf ball and is packed with telecommunications transmitters and receivers providing satellite and mobile telephone connections throughout the UAE. The exterior of the orb is covered with a mesh of lights that illuminate the orb at night and projecting from the top is a radio antenna spike topped by a pulsating red light signalling the highest reach of the building to aircraft approaching on the adjacent flight approach.

Crossing the Dubai Creek is by abra (small ferry)
stations are located along the Creek on both the Bur Dubai and Deira sides.. Dubai Creek, which slices through the centre of the city, has become one of the best-known waterways in the world. Abras can be hired for a private tour (for a price negotiable with the driver but usually very cheap). This is quite a popular activity at sunset on a clear day and affords a wonderful views especially at sunset...Abras set off very regularly, and the service is available round-the-clock...
I like to travel across on the abra, and I spent most of the friday evenings simply enjoying the beautiful scene..

Related to country: United Arab Emirates

Yesterday My friend and I went to a big shopping centre and it was fun..We watch the movie "Munich"..the '72 Olympics tragedy, assassins track those responsible...MUNICH opens with Black September's assault on 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympic Games. As this was one of the first terrorist events to make use of the "world stage" provided by television cameras, the sequence includes footage from ABC sports (with Jim McKay's worried commentary) and shots of tv viewers in shock...the movie deals with difficult ethical, political, and emotional issues, including terrorism, assassination, national identity, and personal responsibility also the film includes graphic violence, some sexual content, nudity and language..
Eric Bana's career must surely bring hope to all aspiring screen actors...
when we finished movie I was looking around to take a photo..I have seen an artist near the food court drawing someone's portrait, I saw beside him
one cute russian girl, she has short light brown hair, blue eyes..and she has a sparkle in her eyes..she was playing with his crayons and papers..when I tried to take photo she had a certain look that she refused to pose for photo and she asked me "Why do you want to take my photo?" the artist told her that he is my friend, let him take a photo..the girl replied..your friend??..but not mine! I do not know him..tell him to go from here..othervise I'll kill him..I took a lot of pictues without listening to her but just couldnt catch her blue eyes!

~Rang De Basanti (Paint It Saffron)~
Related to country: India

I finally watched Rang De Basanti (Paint It Saffron) such a beautiful movie - I loved it,..please go n watch it. dont listen to anybodys comments... I can say one of the best movies I've ever seen...every actor did his/her best and
the songs are great too...the film does have some connection to the history...so every indian youth should see this movie...
The story begins with the young British filmmaker Sue (Alice Patten) stalking off her budget-hit job to India to make a film on the young revolutionaries who so impressed her grandfather, an angrezon ke zamaane ke jailor, with their calm in the face of imminent death. In Delhi, aided by Sonia (Soha Ali Khan), she runs into DJ (Aamir Khan), Karan (Siddharth), Sukhi (Sharman Joshi), Aslam (Kunal Kapoor). With them and the saffron-hued Laxman Pandey (Atul Kulkarni) who joins them later, she hopes to realize her dream of a making a film on Bhagat Singh, Chandrasekhar Azad, Rajguru et al.But, contrary to Sue's expectations, the youth have no feelings for their country. India is a no-hoper where corruption is rampant, and nothing can be done to salvage the situation, they believe. They even poke fun at Sue's attempts to make a film, till they come around. As they play the historical characters, their perspective about the present, and their own role in it, changes forever. Which, in a nutshell, is what the movie is about... A Generation Awakens- It surely does..

Thanks for making this lovly poem.. it makes me feel happy..fills my day with happiness..

Bright Eyes
by ANNELINE

Those eyes…so bright, but yet so sad
What can I do to make them glad

Who did them wrong
Why are they not strong

Those eyes…a song of loneliness
A sign of emptiness

What are they searching for
Happiness….and what more?

Eyes like those, should shine
And everything should be fine

What can I do to make them happy
Just tell me once, and I’ll be snappy

Bright eyes….make them bright
With all your might

Bright eyes…let them shine
For they are destined to be divine

Speed kills, but so does carelessness and it is not always the driver's fault...Pedestrians must realise that crossing busy roads at unmarked points is nothing less than a gamble with their lives...Traffic is already a big problem with the growing number of vehicules and a real danger to one's life..take extra care when crossing busy roads..pls Careful with the bicycles as well..

~The Majestic Taj~
Related to country: India

Located at the city of Agra in the State of Uttar Pradesh, the Taj Mahal is one of the most beautiful masterpieces of architecture in the world. Agra, situated about 200 km south of New Delhi, was the Capital of the Mughals (Moguls), the Muslim Emperors who ruled Northern India between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries. The Mughals were the descendents of two of the most skilled warriors in history: the Turks and the Mongols. The Mughal dynasty reached its highest strength and fame during the reign of their early Emperors, Akbar, Jehangir, and Shah Jehan.

Tsunami film screening
Related to country: United Arab Emirates

On the first anniversary of the Asian tsunami, go and watch the documentary 'From Dust' that was filmed in Sri Lanka after the killer wave struck the island.

The film will be screened on Monday at 7.30pm and 9pm at Cinestar Cinemas, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai.

Tickets are for Dh25 and proceeds will go towards the Galle Land project for tsunami survivors.

The film, which received strong reviews in the local and international press, is directed and produced by Dhruv Dhawan and edited by Nirmal Chander, Indian-born, Dubai-based filmmakers.

'From Dust' is a 71-minute documentary that takes you into the heart of Sri Lanka's devastated coastline and explores the reason why survivors in Sri Lanka were prevented from rebuilding their homes ... an ironic tale about how a disaster created suffering for some and opportunities for others.

(friday) I've had some visitors in the house..friends from my own country..and then we went to the wafi shopping center and after that we went to City Centre mall and watch "KingKong" movie... State-of-the-art visual effects, an entertaining story. and a touching ending...the basic of the movie is a very big ape gets kidnapped from his happy Skull Island home, dragged to New York and turned into a Broadway star. He then tries to escape to the Empire State Building with his girlfriend. This turns out badly for him.

To the Norwegian Noble Peace Prize Committee,
Related to country: United Arab Emirates

To the Norwegian Noble Peace Prize Committee,

The petitioners of this document are in step with me when I say that His Highness the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God rest his soul) was a man who deserved the recognition of the accolades that come in hand with the win of a Noble Peace Prize. Sheikh Zayed was a man who was recognized for his achievements to humanity as a whole; his charitable foundations and donations have proven not only to serve humanity but to also serve the purpose of understanding of the Middle East, its people and more importantly its religion; Islam. Sheikh Zayed strived to maintain the true teachings of Islam through comprehensive dialogue with his people, his nation and his region. Sheikh Zayed was not only loved and respected by Arabs and Muslims, but also by people who had never been in contact with him or his country – their affection was solely based on the humanitarian work aided by His Highness to their communities or by hearing of his great humanitarian efforts, both through aide and diplomacy.

Sheikh Zayed was a man of extraordinary tributes, a Noble Peace Prize would not only shed light on this supremely dedicated human being who’s accomplishments will live on forever, but also on the notion that the Arab and Muslim community would be truly gracious for the recognition of a man who was deemed “the Father, the Founder, the Leader”.

For more information on His Highness the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, please visit the following site for information on his life http://www.uaeinteract.com and http://www.zayed.org.ae/English/thefoundation.htm for information on his charitable works.

Wish you all a happy EID

My favourite beach in the UAE

My favourite beach in the UAE is the beach at Khorfakkan. Khorfakkan is in the eastern side of the UAE looking out over the Indian Ocean. It is a 50-mile stretch of virgin sand, almost untouched, with little tourist industry. There are superb coral reefs off the coast and the breakers coming in off the Indian Ocean are excellent for wind and body surfing.

clean up campaign
Related to country: United Arab Emirates

The Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) is a voluntary, non-government organization (NGO) devoted to protecting the environment through means of education, action programs and community involvement. Our organization is open to men and women of all nationalities. EEG is actively encouraged and supported by concerned local and federal government agencies. It is the first environmental NGO in the world to be ISO 14001 certified and the only organisation of its kind in the UAE with accredited status to the United Nations Convention to Combating Desertification (UNCCD).
To promote community waste reduction and recycling both as means of protecting the environment from the long term burden of waste and also as a flagship for improving community's environmental awareness, EEG organises "Clean up campaigns", at least twice a year in the most polluted parts of the city. These campaigns started in 1992 and are organised in the first and last quarters of the year to mark national and international environmental occasions.

The objectives of the Clean up campaigns are:

To reduce the amount of waste at the designated site
To create awareness of local environmental issues
To inculcate good environmental behavior and civic responsibility in the younger generation
Clean-up activities are one way in which people can positively demonstrate their care and concern for our environment. These campaigns bring in the government, business community and individuals to demonstrate that being environmentally active can be simple and enjoyable and should be participated by everybody.

Clean Up Campaign is an activity, which transcends all border and ideologies and brings people of all cultures together. It has been and should be an activity of our everyday lives.

~World Aids Day~What can we do to help fight AIDS
Related to country: United Arab Emirates

World AIDS Day is a yearly, global event started in January 1988 to promote awareness and action in the fight against HIV/AIDS. According to UNAIDS estimates, there were 37.2 million adults and 2.2 million children worldwide living with HIV at the end of 2004. During the year 4.9 million people became newly infected with the virus. Around half of all people who become infected with HIV do so before they are 25 and are killed by AIDS before they are 35. Around 95% of people with HIV/AIDS live in developing nations. But HIV today is a threat to men, women and children on all continents around the world. In Africa alone, more than 17 million people have died from AIDS and another 25 million are infected with the HIV virus, approximately 1.9 million of whom are children. Every day in Africa, HIV/AIDS kills 6,300 people. 8,500 people are infected with the HIV virus and 1,400 newborn babies are infected during childbirth...

What can I do to support World AIDS Day?

Raise awareness of HIV and AIDS in your area
Wear a red ribbon and ask others to do the same
Protect yourself and your partners - this is the first and best way to stop the spread of HIV
If you are worried - get tested.
At school or work, you can support World AIDS Day by:

Having a dressing up, down or fancy dress day
Putting up some posters (see below) - get people talking
Selling red ribbons
Organising a creative writing/poster campaign
Setting up a debate or a quiz - there're lots of ideas for topics on our site
Cooking an international meal or having a cake sale
Arranging a sponsored three-legged race or balloon release
Getting your friends, family, colleagues or pupils to express their feelings and expand their knowledge about AIDS
Using your imagination!
